Current Project: Afro-Cuban Album

Posted: January 2, 2019

Corey is headed into studio around the middle of January to record his original music with musicians who are specialists in Afro-Cuban music.

From Corey, “I am totally stoked. I have been listening to a lot of this music and studying, but I understand that, at the end of the day, I’m a gringo so I’m not professing to doing a real Afro-Cuban album, but rather have my music interpreted by real Afro-Cuban and Latin artists. I’m very excited to hear what we come up with.”

There will, of course, be a lot of guitar on this record. Corey has been working closely with percussionist extraordinaire, Michael Spiro, to learn about the music, but also about the players, and some things about the culture. It is an exciting project with amazing players.

New Album with Rosana Eckert

Posted: December 19, 2018

Corey recently finished recording an album with a fantastic singer, Rosana Eckert. The album should be out in the spring of 2019.

Rosana is an amazing musician who happens to sing most of the time. Corey and Rosana are putting together a tour as a duo, which, he says, “is exciting because it’s stretching me in a number of ways. I love playing in duos with other instrumentalists and singers, but playing with singers in a duo setting requires some skill.”

More information about this album can be found here: www.indiegogo.com/at/Rosanaeckert

New Record “Factory Girl”

Posted: April 23, 2016

Well, it’s written and arranged, funded (through indiegogo.. thanks to everyone who pre-ordered and more) recorded, mixed, mastered and the artwork is done. Factory Girl is off the manufacturer. Really can’t wait to share (well, sell it anyway) this music with all of you. It’s my strongest work to date and with liner notes from one of my personal guitar heroes, Andy Summers, I’m excited to see the final result. Featuring a stellar cast of musicians including Zach Lapidus, Jeremy Allen, Matt Jorgensen and Michael Spiro, Facotry Girl is something I’m very proud of. I’ll post more about it later. Very happy this thing will be available soon.

Summer Ending

Posted: August 13, 2015

It’s been a fantastic spring and summer. Lots of gigs including a residency at CCM where I performed Chuck Owen’s “River Runs” guitar concerto with the CCM orchestra. Summer highlights included a two week residency at the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop and gigs around the Midwest including a night at the Jazz Kitchen.

I’m getting ready to launch a crowd sourcing campaign do my next record which will be recorded in Oct. 2015. The title is Factory Girl. I have a stellar lineup for this date including Zach Lapidus on keys, Jeremy Allen on bass, Matt Jorgensen on drums and Michael Spiro on percussion. Really looking forward to this recording. I’ll be doing a bunch of festivals in 2015-16 so watch for me in your area. Lots of great things ahead!

Corey Christiansen’s Modern Guitar Community

Posted: May 17, 2013

Corey is excited to announce the launch of his Modern Guitar Online Community’s new platform. The new platform features online guitar lessons with video lessons, live masterclasses, chat rooms, discussion boards with easy to use navigation and more.

For years I have conducted countless workshops and masterclasses around the world giving me the insight and experience to present material in a concise and precise manner. These opportunities gave me intimate insight into so much information over the years that I feel I’ve developed one of the strongest curriculum out there. My curriculum is comprehensive and while at times it may seem difficult, it covers all aspects of this music.   My goal is to create a curriculum and community that will fill in the gaps that exist in many advanced players as well as provide the groundwork for aspiring guitarists through audio/visual and printed means.

For more information, visit Corey’s Modern Guitar Community online.
